    Neal Goren


    Conductor Neal Goren is the Founding Artistic Director of Gotham Chamber Opera (2000-2015), and conducted all of the company’s twenty-four productions. He has conducted throughout the U.S., Europe, and Asia. For Gotham Chamber Opera he conducted repertoire from Monteverdi to Mozart to Muhly, including the world premiere of Nico Muhly's Dark Sisters. Mr. Goren has also conducted Britten’s The Turn of the Screw for Angers Opera (France) and Opéra de Nantes, in 2004; and The Magic Flute for his New York City Opera debut in November 2003. He was the resident conductor of the 2015 Casalmaggiore Music Festival in Italy, and  returned to Italy in July 2017 to conduct Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte for the Trentino Festival. In July 2016, he conducted Conrad Susa’s Tranformations for San Francisco Opera Center. For Center for Contemporary Opera, he conducted Anaïs Nin and Odysseus’ Women by Louis Andriessen (U.S. premiere) in 2017. As a recital accompanist, Mr. Goren has performed with Leontyne Price (as her exclusive musical collaborator), Kathleen Battle, Hei-Kyung Hong, Harolyn Blackwell, Haken Hagegard, Thomas Hampson, Lorraine Hunt Lieberson, Aprile Millo, Hermann Prey, and others. He is an Associate Professor in the graduate opera department of the Mannes College of Music. In addition, Goren is a frequent judge of vocal competitions throughout the U.S., appears annually on the Metropolitan Opera radio broadcast quiz, and is a member of the Visiting Committee to the Department of Musical Instruments of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He has given master classes throughout the U.S. , including Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Northwestern University, University of North Carolina School of the Arts, the Martina Arroyo Foundation, among others. Goren’s upcoming engagements include the New York stage premiere of Pascal Dusapin’s To be sung for New York’s Center for Contemporary Opera, and in January 2018, he will conduct the world premiere of Mila, by Eli Marshall and Candance Chong for the Asia Society Hong Kong.Artistic Director/Conductor: Gotham Chamber Opera.
