Julian Bennett Holmes is an award-winning composer, performer, and music theorist. He is in charge of chapel music at Columbia University, and he is the 2025–28 audio reviews editor for College Music Symposium. He has served on the editorial board of Music & Nature, and he previously taught at Hofstra University. He received his doctorate from the Manhattan School of Music.   He has won prizes including the Society for New Music’s Israel/Pellman Award, the Society for Chamber Music in Rochester Young Composer Award, the National Federation of Music Clubs Young Composers Award, second prize at the International Antonín Dvořák Composition Competition, and the Manhattan School of Music Saul Braverman Music Theory Award. He has presented at conferences including EuroMAC (Strasbourg, France), the Rutgers University Musicological Society Conference, twice at the Society of Composers, and at the University of Delaware. He has hosted the New York City American Guild of Organists conference, chaired the Graduate Theory Conference at the Manhattan School of Music, and given guest lectures at South China Normal University and Juilliard. He recently produced a critical edition of three pieces by Bartolomeo Bernardi for the Society for Seventeenth-Century Music.
