Daniel Neer enjoys a uniquely diverse career as a concert singer, stage performer, librettist, lyricist, and music educator. He studied music, theater and vocal pedagogy at The Royal Academy of Music in London, England (L.R.A.M., AdvDip.), the University of Michigan (S.M. Voice Perf.), and The Ohio State University (B. Mus). Daniel has served on the voice faculties of The Peabody Preparatory of Johns Hopkins University, the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, National Children’s Chorus, Berkshire Choral International, Kenyon College, and currently holds an annual artist residency in music and theater at Otterbein University.
In concert, Daniel has performed as soloist at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center, and in recital with The Phoenix Concerts, Lotte Lehman Foundation, Morgan Library, Brooklyn Historical Society, Chicago Art Institute, The Apollo Salon Series, Guggenheim Museum, Rebel Baroque Orchestra and Manhattan Concert Productions. He is the creator of THE NEW SONG, a recital series celebrating new and forgotten vocal chamber music, which recently presented a sold-out inaugural concert of Japanese and American art song at The National Opera Center. Music festival appearances include Aspen, Bar Harbor, BAM Next Wave, Prototype, White Light (Lincoln Center), Brooklyn BEAT, Queens New Music, New Territories (Glasgow, Scotland) and Ostrava Days (Czech Republic).
On stage, Daniel’s rich performance history includes collaborations with American Repertory Theater, Royal Opera House Covent Garden (ROH II), New York City Opera, Washington National Opera, Gotham Chamber Opera, Metropolis Ensemble, Center for Contemporary Opera, Music-Theatre Group, S.E.M. Ensemble and Mark Morris Dance Group. Broadway credits include Baz Luhrmann’s La Bohème, and the National Theatre’s production of Coram Boy, directed by Melly Still. He has recorded for Dreamworks, Albany Records, Newport Classics, Naxos, Centaur, and Operetta Archives labels.
As a librettist and lyricist, Daniel’s work has been presented at American Opera Projects, UrbanArias, Opera Birmingham, Experiments in Opera, Ensemble Pi, Two Sides Sounding, The Secret Opera, and at concert venues such as Merkin Concert Hall, National Sawdust, Roulette, Harlem School of the Arts, Adelphi Performing Arts Center, The Stone, The Irondale Center, and Brooklyn Conservatory of Music.
Daniel is a proud member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), Musical Theatre Educators’ Alliance, The Dramatists Guild of America, The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), Actors Equity Association, The American Guild of Musical Artists, and the Screen Actors Guild.
