Profile
Charlotte Brathwaite is a director and interdisciplinary artist working across theater, music, film, photography, ritual, and installation. Her work draws from the lost, forgotten, and silenced parts of our lives, transforming them through music, bodies, ritual, and imagination. Her work has been presented internationally at the Holland Festival, Park Avenue Armory, the Whitney Museum of American Art, MOMENTA Biennale de l’image, Dak’Art Biennale, and the Venice Biennale. Brathwaite is a Doris Duke Artist, United States Artists Fellow, and recipient of awards from Creative Capital, the Princess Grace Foundation, and Anonymous Was A Woman. She holds an MFA from Yale School of Drama. With visual artist Malick Welli, she co-founded Malidoma Popenguine, an artist residency and cultural space on the Senegalese coast, opening November 2026.
