Description:
This class is a large-scale collaboration between The New School and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. Students begin by delving into existing classical orchestral uniforms to translate the traditional garments through a modern scope. A study of the components of each look will be crucial to the production of the updated uniforms. The class will be in constant communication with select musicians of the BSO to study and critique the classical wardrobe. Students will gain valuable experience with a real-world client and work as a design team, with necessary roles including a team manager, researchers, illustrators, photographer, patternmakers, tailors, sewers, and cutters.
