This class is a continuation of the large-scale collaboration between The New School and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. In previous years students have reinterpreted the classical traditional orchestral wardrobe through design and technology. Now this class will focus on developing the existing orchestral garments to make them ready for a large clothing production. Students will engage in product development through repurposing existing garments, pattern making, cutting, sizing, fabric and trim sourcing, sewing and finishing. The class will gain valuable experience with a clothing factory and a real-world client while acting as a production team, with necessary roles including project managers, researchers, illustrators, architects, patternmakers, tailors, sewers, and cutters.
