Cities are often identified by their glistening buildings and bustling crowds. If you look a little closer, however, you will discover that open spaces, with their trees, grass, flowers and beaches, might be what actually make the urban core vibrant and healthy. This class will discuss how they help cities to bloom both literally and figuratively as they assume an ever increasing role in residents' lives. But it will not just talk about open spaces in glowing terms it will encourage students to devise designs that will ensure they live up to their great potential.
