Description:
The course provides students with an understanding of the theoretical perspectives that underlie ethnographic and qualitative methodological approaches to applied research. Students are exposed to various approaches of gathering, analyzing, writing up, and utilizing qualitative research data. The course leads students through the process of articulating research interests, moving from broad topics to specific research questions and problems, and defining the relationship between research questions, theory, and choice of methods. Questions of researcher subjectivity and the ethics of conducting human research are all explored.
