Description:
This course will closely examine the impact of various forms of media on our society. The course is concerned with helping students develop an informed and critical understanding of the nature of the mass media, the techniques used by them, and the impact of these techniques. The course will increase students understanding of how the media work, how they produce meaning, how they are organized, and how they construct reality. Through readings, screenings and groups discussions, the course will provide students with a new set of lenses from which to recognize and analyze media. Upon completion of the course, students will have the knowledge and access to resources and information necessary to begin teaching media literacy themselves.
