Description:
This course will examine the business and social implications of new media technology now and over the past 15 years--from the advent of the commercial internet, through the dot com boom and bust, to the converging mediascape that is the web today. In this course, students will explore the basic building blocks of the technology that drives the internet and new media, including major hardware/software systems, platforms, applications, standards, and the major players. The overall goal of the class is to provide a background in the history and shifting dynamics of Internet media, and bring students up to date on the latest media technologies.
