This course centers on developing communicative competence and a deeper understanding of Chinese language and culture. Upon completion of the course, students should be able to 1) listen and speak using intermediate-level grammar and vocabulary in context; 2) read and write longer paragraphs and essays in Chinese characters; 3) understand important aspects of Chinese culture, lifestyles, and sociocultural conventions. Prerequisite: Chinese Level 3 or the equivalent or permission of the instructor.
