PARSONS PRESENTS 2010 THESIS EXHIBITIONS

NEW YORK, April 13, 2010 – Parsons The New School for Design has announced its 2010 thesis exhibitions, which celebrate the work of its graduating students. Throughout the months of April, May, and June, Parsons will present a series of shows in the Sheila C. Johnson Design Center and venues across Manhattan that highlight thesis work by undergraduate and graduate students in its architecture, communication design, design and management, design and technology, fashion design, fine arts, illustration, integrated design, interior design, lighting, photography, and product design programs.

The School of Fashion at Parsons The New School for Design presents its annual Line Debut, a static exhibition of looks by graduating students in the AAS Fashion Design program, which is produced by students in the AAS Fashion Marketing program. Fashion Design and Fashion Marketing are two of Parsons’ intensive associates degree programs for motivated students who want to launch new careers, which also includes graphic design and interior design. The BFA Product Design program at Parsons The New School for Design presents an exhibition of thesis work exploring themes of desire and restraint. The exhibition will coincide with Parsons' participation in this year’s International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF), a student exhibition that considers diverse manifestations of flow through material exploration and formal expressions of global and local currents of energies, ideas and resources. BFA Product Design is an intensive undergraduate program that fosters the intellectual practices and technical skills that students need to become professional product designers. Parsons The New School for Design and the Art Directors Club present an exhibition of thesis work by graduating students in the BFA Illustration program. In addition to thesis work, the installation will debut the results of an ongoing partnership between Parsons Illustration and Dave Eggers’s Brooklyn Superhero Supply Company (BSSC) and its associated nonprofit organization, 826NYC, dedicated to supporting writing skills in elementary, middle, and high-school aged students. Drawings and costumes created by Parsons students that illustrate the stories of young writers in the BSSC program will be on view.
