Fanon and the Politics of Decolonization

This course considers the politics of decolonization through the life and thought of Frantz Fanon. We will read his texts and situate him in biographical and historical context. The course will look at the course and fate of the Algerian revolution as well as other cases of violent decolonization against the backdrop of Fanon's ideas. We will conclude by reading other thinkers who have critically engaged with Fanon's thought. The course will consist entirely of seminar discussions, each based on a book length text.
