This course provides an introduction to the history of classical economic thought. We begin with a brief survey of political economy to 1776, then turn to the classical economists. The main locus is on Smith, Malthus, Ricardo, Mill, and Marx, with about half the semester devoted to a survey of Marx's economics, treated in the context of classical political economy.
