This course will attempt to trace the development of 20
th century phenomenology from Husserl through Levinas to Derrida. A large part of the course will be devoted to Merleau-Ponty's appropriation of Husserl's method and his emphasis on the body. Paul Ricoeur's hermeneutic interpretation of phenomenological method will also be considered. Texts from these authors will be studied with a view to their similarity to and difference from the origins of phenomenology in Husserl's work.
