This course examines classical and contemporary work in political sociology. Issues addressed include the relationship between the state and civil society, political legitimacy, political institutions, the circulations of power, nationalism, and the role of violence in politics. Readings include Marx, Weber, Foucault, Anderson, Arendt, and Boltanski, among others.
