    Michael Ropicki

    Profile

    Michael Ropicki (MA TESOL and CTE, The New School; BA Linguistics, University of Florida) has been teaching ESL/EFL and EAP for the last 10 years in New York, California, and Colombia. He was assessment coordinator at the Universidad del Norte in Barranquilla, Colombia, where he also served as a master's thesis advisor and taught a graduate course in language assessment. Michael is currently a lecturer in the Department of Languages and Culture at the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, and designed and teaches the New School's online course on teaching pronunciation. He has conducted several workshops on assessment, drama, and pronunciation, and has presented at conferences in the US and Colombia on student-written drama, and using technology for pronunciation and vocabulary instruction. Prior to becoming a teacher, Michael worked in information technology for 20 years. His primary academic interests are in second language phonology, pronunciation, and the connections between phonology and lexico-grammar. He currently lives in Bogotá with his husband and their two cats, Aymara and Ticuna.
