The New School is planning for a robust in‑person student experience both inside and outside the classroom starting in fall 2021 and beyond. Fall 2020 and Spring 2021: Online Teaching and Learning

    • In alignment with the university's 2020-2021 academic plan, all SPE courses, across all schools and programs, are available online to students anywhere in the world. Students should work with their advisor to select synchronous and asynchronous courses that will work with their schedule.
    • Most online courses offer real-time weekly discussion via Zoom (synchronous).
    • Many online courses are available on your own schedule via Canvas (asynchronous).
    • We have implemented an expanded three-term academic calendar with fall and spring semesters as well as a ten-week summer term, to give students greater flexibility and control as they plan their academic year.
    • Dedicated Student Affairs staff are on hand to provide individualized advising and can answer any questions you have about designing your learning experience.
    • SPE continues to program virtual events — including readings, film screenings, panel discussions, and symposia — open to the entire New School community and the public. Additional events will be available exclusively to SPE students, including alumni career panels, mixers, and networking opportunities.

Details related to specific schools and programs within SPE is listed below. Additional information is also available on the SPE Remote website.
