The annual festival--part of NYCxDesign, runs through May 20th and features the innovative work of students at Parsons School of Design.

This years major attractions include its first Fashion Runway Show on Fifth Avenue, Street Seats, and the work of the school's inaugural 'MFA Textiles' students.



 

New York, May 9, 2019 -- The New School's Parsons School of Design presents Parsons Festival 2019, a celebration of the leading art and design school's graduating students intellectual, creative, and cutting-edge artistic achievements.

Festival attendees will be able to experience and engage with student work through programs that will include a fashion runway show, exhibitions, interactive installations, screenings, performances, and symposiums.

Running through May 20, this year's festival will be held at The New School's Greenwich Village campus. The festival continues to be an integral part of NYCxDESIGN, New York City's annual design celebration.  

This year's calendar of events is a particularly exceptional showcase for Parsons student artists, designers, architects, filmmakers, illustrators and photographers. Here is a list of some of the highlights.

'BFA Fashion Design' Street 'Runway Show' and Graduation Exhibition Opening

Graduating students of the AAS Fashion Design, AAS Fashion Marketing, and BFA Fashion Design programs, as well as MFA Textiles first-year students, will exhibit their work throughout the University Center and on the street. Programming includes academic and fashion industry partners award presentations, a live fashion photo shoot, and street runway show exhibiting more than 250+ unique looks from the graduating BFA Fashion Design students.   Runway show, May 18 at 2PM at 13th Street & Fifth Ave

Street Seats: School of Constructed Environments

The Street Seats program reclaims portions of New York City streets for the addition of much needed public space that provide a safe attractive seating area for the public and members of The New School community to sit, socialize, and observe their neighborhood with a fresh perspective. In collaboration with the New York City Department of Transportation, the School of Constructed Environments has developed this year's project for the corner of 13th Street and Fifth Avenue. The 40 by six feet space along the curb of 13th Street, will include a generous amount of planters and movable public seating that will be evolving during its seven month lifespan. Under construction starting Thursday, May 9 at 13th Street & Fifth Ave  

MFA Design and Technology Interactive Showcase and Exhibition

Creative technology installations, screenings, and demonstrations of cutting edge interactive projects, games, virtual and augmented reality, and physical products of all types. Interactive Showcase starts Tuesday May 14 at 3PM; exhibition opening reception 6PM. 6 E 16th St - 12th Floor

MFA Textiles Open Studio Inaugural End of Year Exhibition

This past academic year was the university's first cohort of MFA Textile students. Attendees to their end of year exhibition will able to discuss student work, view installations, and learn more about the textiles program. Today's designers are reimagining textiles and preparing for opportunities in fashion, product, interior, architecture, and scenic design. Exhibition is on Monday, May 13 from 1:30 to 6 PM, 2 West 13th Street MFA Textiles Studio Room L701

BFA Photography Senior Thesis Exhibition

The work of Parsons BFA Photography seniors will be displayed at their senior thesis exhibition at Aperture Foundation Gallery. Opening Reception, Tuesday May 14, 6-8PM. Aperture Foundation, 4th Floor 547 West 27th Street
