Parsons school of design hosts celebration of character-related art and design

Pictoplasma conference featuring artist talks, state-of-the-art animation screenings, and lively panel discussions to celebrate the next generation of character design and art

WHAT:

Pictoplasma is a one-day public event with select screenings, artist lectures, panels and presentations of the very best in international animation, character design, illustration, and fine art. In its 5th US edition, the Pictoplasma Conference, originating from Berlin, returns to New York to present a marathon of inspiring lectures, talks and panel discussions by some of the most outstanding artists, illustrators and designers pushing the edge of contemporary character visualization.

WHO:

Ben Bocquelet is a French-born English animator, writer, and producer, best known as the creator and main writer of The Amazing World of Gumball.

Jean Jullien is a French graphic artist currently living in London who works closely with the musician The Coward

Julian Glander is a Pittsburgh-based visual artist working on comics, video games, interactive toys, short films, and illustrations. He is best known for his oddball infinitely loopable animated GIFs inspired by Claymation.

Kirsten Lepore is an Los Angeles-based director and animator. Her stop-motion episode of Adventure Time won a 2016 Emmy, and her other films have taken top prizes at SXSW and Slamdance.

Martina Paukova is a native of Slovakia who creates humorous, jam-packed images in a trademark palette and Memphis-inspired patterns for an increasingly impressive list of clients, including many editorials like The Guardian, New York Times, ZEIT or Condé Nast, and brands such as Pull&Bear, Converse or Google.

Motomichi Nakamura is a Japanese artist whose work has appeared at the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York and Winzavod-Moscow Contemporary Art Center, and screened at at Sundance Film Festival and Onedotzero Festival, among others. He has worked on projects for EA, MTV, USA Networks and Sony and produced a music video for the Swedish band The Knife.

Mr Kat is an iconic character brand created by Peru based, Spanish born artist Jaime Alvarez.

You Jung Byun is a Queens native best known for storytelling and images that imply unworldly mystery. She has created work for Penguin Random House, Nobrow Press, Enchanted Lion Books, Fisher Price, and Verizon Wireless, among others.
