WHAT: Under the administration of President Rafael Correa, Ecuador has taken the historic decision to permanently forego the extraction of the nation's Yasuni-ITT oil fields, focusing instead alternative energy creation. This unique initiative puts Ecuador at the forefront of addressing climate change and sustainable development, enabling the nation to gradually diversify its energy matrix - and providing a model for other fossil fuel-dependant nations.
