NEW YORK, May 19, 2011—Mannes College The New School for Music, one of the world's leading conservatories, will present a wide-ranging program of classical and contemporary music institutes, festivals, and seminars throughout the summer. These include The 11th Annual Mannes Beethoven Institute, June 5-June 12; The Institute and Festival for Contemporary Performance, June 13-23; The 11th Annual New York Guitar Seminar at Mannes, July 5-10; and The 13th Annual International Keyboard Institute and Festival, July 17-31.

The 11th Annual Mannes Beethoven Institute
June 5-June 12, 2011

For a week of intensive study, The Mannes Beethoven Institute explores Beethoven's duo sonatas, piano trios, and string quartets. Participating faculty includes pianists Yuri Kim, Julian Martin, Thomas Sauer, and Ignat Solzhenitsyn; the Daedalus String Quartet; violinist Soovin Kim; cellist Colin Carr; tenor Nils Neubert; archivist Allan Evans; and Joel Lester (Dean of Mannes College). Faculty concerts will take place on Monday, June 6 and Wednesday, June 8 at 8:00 PM.

Institute and Festival for Contemporary Performance

The Institute and Festival for Contemporary Performance, now in its eighth year, presents workshops, master classes, lectures, symposia, and concerts featuring some of the most significant performers, composers, and thinkers in contemporary music. Performers include Russell Sherman, TimeTable and Talujon Percussion, William Lang, Rolf Schulte, Steven Gerber, Véronique Mathieu and Marc Ponthus. Festival programming focuses on the wealth of modern repertoire for solo, unaccompanied instruments as well as for chamber ensemble. This year's institute will also examine new directions in solo performance through the addition of video and text elements.

The 13th Annual International Keyboard Institute and Festival

The International Keyboard Institute, founded by Mannes alumnus and faculty member Jerome Rose will host two concert series:
The Prestige Series features young artists from around the world, all of whom are at the beginning of international careers. Many of these artists have recently won major international competitions including Chopin, Liszt, E-Competition, Rubinstein, and Paderewski.
The Masters Series features established guest artists, many of whom not only perform but also lead a master class for Mannes students, and Mannes faculty. Guest artists making their Masters Series debuts are Dmitri Alexeev, Denis Kozhukhin, Jon Nakamatsu and Xiayin Wang Returning to give a recital and master classes are Akiko Ebi, Marc-André Hamelin, Cyprien Katsaris, Alexander Kobrin, HaeSun Paik, Yuan Sheng and Mykola Suk. David Dubal returns to give a lecture, "Liszt: A Life of Greatness." International Keyboard Institute Founder/Director Jerome Rose will perform the opening concert.
In addition, this year the Festival will honor the 200th anniversary of the birth of Franz Liszt with much of the piano repertoire recited for performance in his honor. Alan Walker, the author of a three-volume biography of Liszt, will give a lecture on the Saturday mid-point of the Festival: "Liszt and the Keyboard." This event will be free to the public. Walker joins host David Dubal at the Sunday mid-point of the Festival for an event that will also be free to the public, "An Afternoon with Alan Walker."
