MANNES COLLEGE OF MUSIC TO CONCLUDE
MANNES BACH 2000
WITH CONCERT AT WEILL RECITAL HALL
ON TUESDAY, DECEMBER 19 AT 8 PM

(November 3, 2000 – New York, NY) Mannes College of Music will conclude its yearlong festival devoted to the music of J.S. Bach on the 250th anniversary of his death with a special concert at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall on Tuesday, December 19 at 8 PM.

Pavlina Dokovska, Chair of the Piano Department and Artistic Director of Mannes Bach 2000 commented, "It’s been a remarkable year for Mannes faculty and students who have performed in the festival, which celebrated the music and influence of J.S. Bach. Every department at Mannes was able to participate in the festival."

Joel Lester, Dean of Mannes College of Music, added, "We’re grateful to our distinguished faculty members, who took time out of their busy touring schedules to perform in Mannes Bach 2000. It’s been a tremendous experience for our students to perform the music of Bach in the major concert halls and venues around the city. Mannes students were able to take advantage of these unique performance and learning opportunities."

The December 19 program will feature Sonata in G Major for Viola da Gamba and Harpsichord, BWV 127, Wedding Cantata, BWV 202, Trio Sonata: "Musikalische Opfer," BWV 1079, and Brandenburg Concerto No. 5, BWV 1050.

Mannes students and recent alumni who will participate in the final program include Susannah Chapman, Sarah Cullins, Julia Dusman, Arthur Haas, Lisa Jaklitsch, Marina Kitaychik, Katie Kresek, Wolfram Koessel, Rita Mitsel, Urara Mogi, Jessie Reagen, and Mei Ting Sun. Mannes faculty who performed, lectured or presented master classes during the Mannes Bach 2000 festival included pianists Edward Aldwell, Vladimir Feltsman, Richard Goode, Jerome Rose, Peter Serkin, and Andras Schiff, flautist Judith Mendenhall, violinist Hiroko Yajima, and Joel Lester, Dean of the College.
