    Preservation

Preservation is a jewelry collection designed to alter society’s perception of plastic’s value while raising our awareness about plastic pollution in the ocean. Currently, our oceans are being polluted with eight million metric tons of plastic every year, killing marine life at an alarming rate. This does not have to be our reality. By extracting plastics from the ocean and repurposing them into desirable products, designers can offer consumers a tangible way to be a part of a solution. I chose jewelry as my method of communication because it is a form of inner expression, used to expose one’s beliefs and values through symbolism. Completed by its wearer, this contemporary collection was inspired by the motion of the five gyres and the way ocean currents interconnect, traveling in a circular motion.
