Thailand Studio Capstone: Ban San Si

This is a proposal for a three-part (permanent, semi-permanent, and temporary) urban solution to the decline in active social life within the rural Thai village, Ban San Si. A temporary bridge spanning across the rice field lessens the distance between the villagers and the Temple. A central public pavilion creates a dignified gathering space for activity and events, while also collecting and filtering rainwater. A brewery provides the villagers with the tools to create a local economy, while also becoming a celebration space that brings people together over food and drink. Each element draws from local building and manufacturing techniques in an effort to not only celebrate the local vernacular architecture, but also the daily act of craftsmanship and making.
