    Empowerment through Craft

For my thesis, I drew inspiration from the Harley Davidson biker community. After attending the 2018 Milwaukee Rally, I found both the bikes and the clothing to be loud and dazzling. The experience embodied a magnetic power that I thought was worth investigating. Through working with executive leadership at Harley Davidson on material prototyping, interviewing stakeholders (including H.D. representatives and female bikers), and researching sustainable textiles and materiality, my goal was to achieve an innovative redesign of women's biker wear that would empower the female biker community as well as non-bikers. Through this work, I hope to bring to light why design matters and how it can serve as a basis for academic research and social impact.
