    Profile

Maya has taught at Parsons since 2011 mostly in the First Year program. She studied mythology and Buddhism as an undergraduate at Vassar, and this thinking and practice informs her creative work and teaching to this day. In the classroom she encourages embodiment and experimentation in visual, literary, and hybrid work. Maya has also worked as a faculty mentor, served on the First Year EISJ working group and previously taught memoir writing to cancer survivors. Her interests in her own life and work and in the classroom include ancestral storytelling, the role of home in creative practice, and ritual making. Maya lives in the Taghkanic Hills north of the city on Mohican land once also shared by the Pondshiners.
