    Profile

With over 28 years of dedicated experience, Eugenia D. Coutavas stands as an accomplished educator in the field of English as a Second Language (ESL). Throughout her career, she has demonstrated a passion for empowering diverse immigrant communities in New York City. Currently, Eugenia's focus is primarily on higher education, where she has been a faculty member at Parsons for the past 17 years.

Eugenia's teaching experience spans across three CUNY campuses, as well as St. John’s University, NYU, Pace University, SVA, and The Riverside Language Program. Beyond her commitment to teaching English Language Learners (ELLs), she has played a pivotal role in shaping future educators through her contributions to The New School Certificate Program and Hunter College's MA Tesol Program, where she imparts invaluable insights in teacher-training courses.

Eugenia's research is centered on the intersection of art & design in second language acquisition where she is currently conducting research involving The New School Art Collection. Her interest also extends to Educational Technology (Ed Tech), where she explores innovative ways in which technology can enhance language learning experiences. Notably, Eugenia has shared her expertise through her former tech column in the NY State Tesol publication Dialogue, enriching the discourse on effective language teaching methodologies.
