    With a background in industrial engineering (BSc) and finance (MSc), Pinar is a serial entrepreneur having co-founded and led multiple award-winning, diverse companies in design, fabrication and technology. She is a frequent public speaker and guest lecturer internationally, on the topics of entrepreneurship, strategic collaborations, sustainable innovations and inclusive design.

    Pinar’s first venture, New York Functional Furniture –was an e-commerce platform for functional furniture designed in New York and manufactured in Turkey. As the co-founder, she set up the corporate and logistical infrastructure, and managed the business operations. After two years of nationwide sales and a showroom opening in NYC, the company was acquired by Lazzoni USA, an international furniture manufacturer and retailer.

    In 2014, she co-founded Sponge Inc., a clean-tech firm with a patent-pending novel material, that provides effective and scalable oil & gas clean up solutions, with potential applications in construction, marine and manufacturing industries. Sponge Inc. became part of EU’s Climate KIC Accelerator in Netherlands and Plug & Play Tech Center in California, USA. The company is currently working on industry-specific prototyping and corporate research partnerships to broaden industry applications.

    Since 2015, Pinar is the Managing Partner of Eray/Carbajo, an international award-winning architecture and design studio based in NYC and Istanbul that creates purposeful and problem-solving designs in diverse typologies, industries and demographics. In addition to the business operations, she oversees commercialization and partnership efforts, as well as its research agenda that is open to public under the What’s Wrong With panel and podcast series.

    Pinar also serves on the Board of Directors of Open Style Lab (OSL), a non-profit organization originated at MIT, with the mission to make style accessible to people of all abilities.

    Understanding the value of strategic collaborations for start-ups and growing companies, Pinar has built a workshop series for Pratt Center for Community Development, and teaches Made in NYC businesses how to collaborate strategically to create marketing opportunities.
