    Student Life

  • Become a part of a rich, vibrant, and diverse community of dedicated academics and intellectuals. Connect with students and faculty who share your passions, interests, and drive to investigate the challenges that face society today.

At The New School, your education is interwoven with public life. Take advantage of public programs that give you a front-row seat to scholars, luminaries, and leaders making history. Participate in conferences, performances, and series that will reshape the way you experience and think about the world. Let the walls of the academy dissolve around you as you explore one of the most culturally rich and intellectually dynamic cities in the world, New York City.

  • Take advantage of the academic, intellectual, and cultural opportunities afforded by living in one of the world's hubs of scholarship and culture. Enjoy access to scholars, institutions, libraries, organizations, and cultural institutions for exploration, research, and employment.

  • Shape intellectual life at The New School for Social Research and beyond. Student-run activities from reading groups to conferences tackle urgent issues, offer a platform for emerging voices, and connect scholars across New York City and the wider world.

  • Access traditional, modern, and innovative tools, labs, libraries, and workspaces. Our facilities will help you foster your academic, collaborative, and intellectual growth, expanding your chance for deep research and scholarship.

  • Chart your course of study with the help of our Graduate Student Advising program, where trained advisors offer assistance in navigating degree requirements, elective selection, and help with course registration. You can also find additional resources on academic policies, graduation and PhD guidelines, and the Inter-University Doctoral Consortium.

  • Get access to a wide array of information on and resources for the academic and non-academic job markets through the Office of Career Services. We offer a wide range of events, programs, and one-on-one advising, planned by the associate director for Graduate Career Success, who is dedicated to New School for Social Research students. Job market workshops and series are provided multiple times per year, and Career Services works to plan dedicated recruiting events with organizations in a broad range of fields.
