Served on the conducting staff of the New York Philharmonic; has also conducted the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Helsinki Philharmonic, the Finnish and Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestras, the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra, and many other orchestras and opera companies worldwide. Worked with Pierre Boulez, Bernard Rands, Harrison Birtwistle and Magnus Lindberg. Was Principal Conductor of the Auros Group for New Music; guest conducts Speculum Musicae, the New York New Music Ensemble, the Locrian Chamber Players, the Cygnus Ensemble, Dinosaur Annex, and the Fromm Players at Harvard. Led world premieres at the Venice Biennale and the Oslo Ultima Contemporary Music Festival. His own works have been performed by the New York Philharmonic as well as other ensembles and soloists. Leads workshops for young musicians and music educators. Clinician for the New York Philharmonic; Mentor for Distinguished Concerts International New York. Composes music for school and youth ensembles. Frequently guest conducts at the Cleveland Institute of Music; has also conducted at Harvard, Columbia and Brandeis Universities. Principal Conducted first annual Rencontres Musicales Européennes in France; taught chamber music at Helsinki University; led a workshop for composers at the Venice Biennale, opera, orchestral, and chamber music master classes at the Accademia di Musica in Sassari. Wrote and conducted youth concerts with the New York, Helsinki, and Los Angeles Philharmonics. Studied at the New England Conservatory, Mannes, and graduated with Highest Honors from Jorma Panula’s class at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki.
