Visiting Professor of Psychology
My research focuses on the brain mechanisms of language, language deficits, and how language affects cognitive mechanisms. More specifically, in my laboratory we investigate the brain mechanisms supporting word production in speaking, writing, and bilingualism. We also examine the effects of aphasia, Alzheimer’s disease, and epilepsy on language production, in order to characterize how these pathologies affect language and to identify possible interventions. We also research sign language. Our goals are to understand how language mechanisms that have evolved to support speech have adapted to signing, and how the acquisition of sign language could affect cognitive mechanisms.
