    Mr. Shemaria is a pianist, composer and arranger in New York City. He is currently on the faculties of the Mannes Jazz and Contemporary Music Program at the New School and New York University. Starting in 1990, he was a member of the BMI Composers Workshop led by Bob Brookmeyer and Manny Albam. From 1994-95 he served as the conductor for the UMO Jazz Orchestra, the national radio big band of Finland, in Helsinki. While there, he taught composition and arranging at the Sibelius Music Academy. His compositions and arrangements have been commissioned and recorded by the Airmen of Note (United States Air Force Big Band), Meridian Arts Ensemble, UMO Jazz Orchestra, Randy Johnston, Diva, Mannes College Brass Ensemble and the Jim Pugh/Dave Taylor Project. His most recent CD was just released on Amosaya Records in the summer of 1998 and is entitled "3am: The Rich Shemaria Jazz Orchestra."
