PEN World Voices Festival: Invisible Symposium

8:00 p.m.

In 1947, a distinguished Hungarian art movement called the European School initiated a project called the Invisible Symposium. Artists from a variety of disciplines—including writers, visual artists, philosophers, and editors—were all asked the same set of questions. Their answers were collected and published. The 2013 PEN World Voices Festival mounts its own Invisible Symposium, with a focus on the current state of democracy. Why is it ailing? What challenges will it face in the years to come? Actors will portray the participating intellectuals in a staged exchange of ideas, conveying an engaging and entertaining virtual dialogue among the world’s most important thinkers. In collaboration with Jacobin. Emceed and Hosted by NPR journalist Brooke Gladstone.
