Jazz Presents: Beat Masters

8:00 p.m.

Jazz Presents_Beat Masters

Three of NYC's most eccentric and influential groove icons come together to demonstrate that 1+1+1 is greater than 3. WAY greater.

Since arriving in the U.S. in 1980 from his native country Brazil, Cyro Baptista has emerged as one of the premier percussionists in the country. His imagination, his natural humor, his tremendous musical skills and theatrical ways with instruments from the Middle East, Indonesia, Africa, the US, and above all, his mastery of Brazilian percussion and the many instruments he creates himself have catapulted him into world renown.

With his roots in American avant-garde music as well as the Brazilian music scene of New York City, jazz drummer Billy Martin Best is now best known as a member of jazz-funk trio Medeski Martin & Wood.

Drummer, composer and band leader Amir Ziv is a critically acclaimed artist who has helped shape the downtown NYC music scene over the last 16 years. He has studied and performed with some of the most recorded and innovative drummers in cinematic, pop and jazz music history, including Medeski Martin & Wood among many others, and for the last decade, with Cyro Baptista's Beat The Donkey. Amir is a current faculty member at The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music.
