2012-13 Schneider Concerts Presents Diotima Quartet

2:00 p.m.

Bartók: String Quartet no. 6 (1939)
Hosokawa: Blossoming (2007)
Brahms: String Quartet in A Minor, op. 51, no. 2 (1873)

The Diotima Quartet focuses on music of the Classical period, French Romanticism, and 20th-century and contemporary music. Newly commissioned works are also a major part of the ensemble’s repertoire.

The Diotima Quartet won first prize at the 1999 FNAPEC (Fédération Nationale des Associations de Parents d’Elèves de Conservatoires) Competition in Paris and at the 2000 London International String Quartet Competition. The ensemble completed a two-year residency at the Centre Européen de Musique de Chambre in Fontainebleau in 2002 and has performed at major concert venues and music festivals across Europe and in Japan, the United States, Mexico, China, and South Korea.

Founded in 1957, the Schneider Concerts chamber music series has been praised by the New York Times as “one of the best deals in town for lovers of classical music.” The series has presented many of the world’s chamber music notables before their rise to fame: Peter Serkin, the Guarneri String Quartet, and Tashi made their New York debuts in Schneider Concerts, and Yefim Bronfman, Yo-Yo Ma, and Murray Perahia performed in the series early in their careers.
