    Shannon Stowe

    Profile

    Before moving to New York to attend the New School for Drama as an MFA Acting Candidate, Shannon Stowe was an actor and professional choreographer in the San Francisco Bay Area. In New York, Shannon has choreographed for Wizard Oil Productions, Ego Actus, Theatre Uzume, Off-Broadway for Masterworks Theatre Company and for her own dance theatre company, New Dance Theatre.  New Dance Theatre made their Off-Off-Broadway debut with ASYLUM in July 2017.  The production received three nominations from the New York Innovative Theatre Awards:  Outstanding Performance Art Piece, Outstanding Ensemble, Outstanding Choreography/Movement.  She served as choreographer and assistant director for the Classics Studio productions at the New School from 2011-2017. Highlights of the Classics Studio were a Butoh-inspired Henry VI , an Argentine Tango infused Love’s Labour’s Lost, and a hip-hop Midsummer Night’s Dream.  She has a background in Ballet, Musical Theatre and Jazz. In addition to teaching dance technique, she also teaches a variety of dance fitness classes and is a certified personal trainer (ACE) and group fitness instructor (AFAA). She has been teaching for the New School Student Services program since 2009.  Shannon received a certificate from the Yale Professional Directors Training Program and is a proud member of AEA, SAG/AFTRA, and ATME (The Association of Theatre Movement Educators).  Recent training includes completing courses in Embodied Activism and work with Frantic Assembly.  Shannon in on the consulting committee for Dance4Healing who’s mission is “Educating, empowering, and inspiring anyone to leverage technology to build healthy habits with creative arts in a fun, easy way.”  Her role will be to generate content focusing on dance and the theatre as a healing/wellness practice as well as to design curriculum for instructor training around creative movement and empowered embodiment.   Her dance-for-all workshops can be found on dancingalonetogether.org.
