    Grad Week: Celebrating the Class of 2017

    May 12–16, 2017

    Student Success is excited to host the first-ever Grad Week to celebrate the accomplishments of our graduating students and the completion of their degrees. Grad Week will be a time for our community to demonstrate its pride and for graduates to commemorate their experiences at The New School. Graduates can expect festive events during which they can reminisce with their peers and share their post-graduation aspirations.

    Friday, May 12

    New York Yankees vs. Houston Astros — SOLD OUT
    Friday, May 12, 7:05 p.m. (first pitch)
    Yankee Stadium, 1 East 161st Street, Bronx, New York
    Join us as the New York Yankees take on the Houston Astros. The New School will have a block of seats for graduates and their guests behind third base in section 424 (rows 4 to 7). These seats retail for $41.10, but graduating students can purchase one ticket for $10 and additional tickets for $26.50 each. Tickets must be purchased in advance at tinyurl.com/tns-grad-week. Beginning Monday, May 1, tickets may be picked up anytime between 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m, Monday through Friday, from the Office of Student Development and Activities at 72 Fifth Avenue, 3rd floor. Please note that all seats are assigned when tickets are picked up. If you wish to sit with others, please pick up your tickets together. Written permission via email is required in order to pick up someone else's order.

    Brooklyn Brewery Tour
    Friday, May 12, 7:30 and 8:30 p.m.
    Brooklyn Brewery, 79 North 11th Street, Brooklyn, New York
    Celebrate your time at The New School with fellow graduates at the Brooklyn Brewery! Tours take place at 7.30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Admission is $5 and includes a tour of the brewery and one beer. The Brooklyn Brewery Tasting Room is open from 6:00 to 11:00 p.m. This event is open only to graduating New School students who are 21 years of age or older. Tour group sizes are limited to 30 students. Tickets must be purchased in advance at tinyurl.com/tns-grad-week.

    Saturday, May 13

    Grad Picnic
    Saturday, May 13, 12:00 to 4:00 p.m.
    Vera List Courtyard, 66 West 12th Street, ground floor
    What better way to celebrate graduation than with a picnic? Drop by anytime between 12:00 and 4:00 p.m. to enjoy sandwiches and ice cream with friends. Don’t forget to bring a blanket! Admission is free, but you must RSVP in advance at tinyurl.com/tns-grad-week-RSVP.


    Saturday, May 13, 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
    Karaoke Cave, 11 East 13th Street, downstairs
    Come to the Karaoke Cave after the grad picnic to join in on some karaoke fun. There will be complimentary appetizers, and the first song is free! You don’t have to be a professional singer to rock out to your favorite tunes, so get ready to make some memories with your fellow grads. Admission is free, but you must RSVP in advance at tinyurl.com/tns-grad-week-RSVP.

    Sofar Sounds Curated by The New School
    Saturday, May 13, 8:00 to 10:30 p.m.
    Sofar Sounds is a global community bringing the magic back to live music. Sofar Sounds curates secret, invitation-only intimate gigs in unique spaces, from living rooms and churches to hoodie shops and fancy furniture showrooms. Since you're a graduating New School student, Sofar Sounds will extend a special entry to you for our show on Saturday, May 13, which will be presented by three unique New School alumni artists. This is a BYOB (Bring Your Own Beverage) event, where everyone will be sitting on the floor. Guests are asked to stay for the entire show. Location details will be announced the day before the event and will also be sent by email.

    Grad Fair
    Monday, May 15, 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.
    Theresa Lang Community and Student Center, Arnhold Hall, 55 West 13th Street
    Grads will be treated to appetizers, complimentary beverages, fortune-telling, free chair massages, a chance to win cash and prizes from our cash cube, and more. Organizations will be on hand to help you find an apartment, continue your creative endeavors after college, and screen-print a T-shirt to commemorate your time at The New School. Stop by the Grad Fair and celebrate the last day of your college career! 

    Sunset Boat Cruise Around New York Harbor
    Monday, May 15
    6:30 p.m.: Boarding begins
    7:00 p.m.: Boat sails
    11:00 p.m.: Return to shore
    Pier Location: World Yacht, Pier 81, West 41st Street off 12th Avenue, New York
    Board our party boat and sail away with your fellow graduates! You and your guests are invited to cruise around Manhattan one last time before graduation. Come enjoy hors d’oeuvres, music, dancing, and a breathtaking view of the city skyline at night. Drinks are available for purchase. Students who are 21 years or older and who wish to purchase alcoholic beverages must present state-issued photo ID. New School grads can bring up to three (3) guests by purchasing tickets in advance at tinyurl.com/tns-grad-week.Tickets are $20 per graduating student and $30 per guest. Travel to the boat dock with a group or on your own. Please note that you will need a NYC MetroCard if you travel via subway. Online registration closes at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, May 15.

    Career Development Senior Series: Job Search, Social Media, and Interviewing Skills

    1:00 to 2:00 p.m.: Conducting a Comprehensive Job Search: Uncovering the Hidden Job Market (Presented by Undergraduate Career Services and Experiential Opportunities)
    Learn how to access valuable job search resources including The New School Village and how to network your way through the hidden job market.

    2:00 to 3:30 p.m.: Leveraging LinkedIn to Build Your Social Media Presence (presented by Graduate Careers)
    Create a high-impact LinkedIn profile that will establish and build your social media presence to advance your job search.

    3:30 to 4:30 p.m.: Interview Prep and Speed Interviewing Session (presented by the Office of Student Success: Success Advisors)
    Ready to land your dream job? Learn how to ace your interview! Join us for a brief presentation on how to answer common interview questions. You will then have an opportunity to practice in a mock interview with an advisor to receive feedback on the spot.

    Champagne Toast

    Cheers to you and all of your accomplishments at The New School! Please join vice president of Student Success Michelle Relyea and the entire Student Success Advising team to toast the Class of 2017.
