The New School was the pioneer of lifelong higher education in the United States. Today the university offers hundreds of classes in New York City and online
to students who want to advance their careers, start a business, find a creative outlet, or acquire new skills. Three divisions of the university, Parsons, The New School for Public Engagement, and Mannes offer courses and professional training certificates open to the general public for noncredit and general/transfer credit enrollment.
Continuing Education classes at Parsons offer students windows into new worlds, challenges to the traditional divisions between art and design disciplines, forums to make new friends, and launch pads for careers. Parsons offers hundreds of nondegree courses each term in Digital Design, Fashion Design, Fine Arts, Graphic Design, and Interior Design and Architecture Studies.
The New School for Public Engagement offers a range of opportunities for intellectual inquiry, creative exploration, and professional development to adult learners. A dedicated faculty of scholars and professionals instruct a wide range of subject areas including Social Sciences, Humanities, Media Studies and Film, Writing, Foreign Languages, English Language Studies, Visual and Performing Arts, Management and Business, and Food Studies.
The Mannes Extension Division offers musicians an alternative conservatory experience. Continuing Education courses are open to students, community members, and learners of all musical backgrounds and levels of experience. Students may attend Continuing Education courses as a preliminary step toward enrollment in the Extension Diploma program or other Mannes College degree or certificate programs.
