Poetry Society of America: Tribute to Elizabeth Bishop

 On Thursday, October 30, at 7:00 p.m. the Poetry Society of America and The New School Writing Program will honor the work of Elizabeth Bishop (1911-1979), in celebration of the Library of America’s new publication Elizabeth Bishop: Poems, Prose and Letters.

Bishop received the Pulitzer Prize in 1965 for her collection of poetry North & South—A Cold Spring. She later received the National Book Award and the National Book Critics Circle Awards, as well as two Guggenheim Fellowships. In 1976, she became the first woman to receive the Neustadt International Prize for Literature and remains to this day the only American to be awarded that prize. Readers will include Jonathan Galassi, Susan Howe, Katha Pollitt, Meghan O'Rourke, Vijay Seshadri, Lloyd Schwartz, and Rebecca Wolff.
