2nd Annual Pan African Literary Forum Writers' Conference Reading

Jeffery Renard Allen is a faculty member of the Writing Program. In 2008, he founded the Pan African Literary Forum, an international writer's conference focusing on works of the African diaspora. The conference was held in Accra, Ghana in the summer. A special reading was held at The New School in January, and featured Chimamanda Nogozi Adichie, author of Half of a Yellow Sun, Yusef Komunyakaa, author of Pleasure Dome: New and Collected Poems, Quincy Troupe, author of The Architecture of Language: Poems, and Patricia Jabbeh Wesley, author of The River is Rising.
 
For summer 2010, Allen directs of the second annual Pan African Literary Forum in Timbuktu, Mali. A special reading will be held at The New School this spring with authors Binyavanga WainainaColin Channer, and Thomas Sayers Ellis who will appear along with other acclaimed writers.  The reading will also launch two  Pan African Literary Forum activites: an annual Internatational Book Prize, and an online curriculum, which has developed for writers in sub-Saharan Africa and the Caribbean.
