This event is open to The New School community only. This is not a public event.
To commemorate the 2012–13 awardees and the artwork that inspired their winning pieces, a gathering will take place with honorary guest and artist Hans Haacke. His piece Helmsboro Country (dyptych), 1990, part of the Vera List Art Collection, is the subject of the critical response essay "Helmsboro Country and Me" by Thomas J. Ashley, New School for Public Engagement, Institute for Retired Professionals. Gathering in the hallway next to Haacke's work, Haacke will discuss with participating students the art of art criticism and its meaning to artists.
The other 2012–13 awardees are Raven Jackson and Andrew Williams. See The New School NEW_S 's article on the awardees, as well as information on the competition on the Vera List Center's website. A publication that features all three awardees will be available fall 2013.
Thanks go to Hans Haacke and the participating
students, to the curators of The New School Art Collection Silvia Rocciolo and
Eric Stark, and to fellow jury members Joshua Mack, Rosemary O’Neill, Robert
Polito, Silvia Rocciolo, Juliet Tarantino, and Wendy S. Walters.
Please RSVP to Carin Kuoni at firstname.lastname@example.org.
