THE NEW SCHOOL
Tim Marshall, Provost

October 4, 2012

I am pleased to announce a call for proposals for multi-year Research Cluster Grants for New School faculty. This is a new initiative, aimed at supporting interdivisional research collaboration and promoting innovative thinking across The New School’s faculty, with its wide-ranging research interests in the social sciences, humanities, design, the arts, media, management, urban policy, among other areas. The grants will also seek to strengthen ties across divisions in a way that is driven by the research interests of the faculty.

Selected Research Clusters will receive grants between $10,000 and $20,000 per year for a two-to-three year period, pending availability of funds and satisfactory progress. We expect to support up to three Research Clusters in the inaugural year of this program funded through June 2014. Funding will go to the best proposals that involve a team of faculty with two designated Project Directors with affiliation in separate divisions of the university.

The University Research Council, a committee of faculty, will review proposals and make recommendations to the Provost. The Provost will announce award winners in late January, with anticipated funding to begin in February 2013.

The deadline for proposal submissions is Friday, December 14 at 5:00 p.m.

For full proposal guidelines and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ), go to:

Light refreshments will be served.

Additionally, questions about the Research Cluster Grants can be addressed to Will Milberg (milbergw@newschool.edu), Professor of Economics and Chair of the University Research Council or to Robert Gutierrez (ProvostFRF@newschool.edu), Director of Research Support.

Sincerely,

Tim
