May 21, 2013
The countdown may have started long ago but with hours to go before commencement, I would like to take a moment to congratulate all of you. Your efforts, ingenuity, and creativity—as well as that of your 3,274 fellow graduates—have led to this Friday. It is time to celebrate.
In the coming months, many of you will launch new careers or pursue further study. Every one of you will create an innovative and individual path, which derives some of its inspiration from your years at The New School. Regardless of the route you choose, I am confident that your years here, filled with hard work, engaged learning, and productive collaboration, have more than prepared you for your future endeavors.
You are now a lifelong member of The New School Alumni Association, an honor you share with a group of thinkers, artists, activists, and performers who have challenged the status quo for nearly a century. I look forward to your remaining a part of our community and am eager to learn of your next great achievements.
Congratulations, Class of 2013.
