THE NEW SCHOOL
David E. Van Zandt, President

November 6, 2012

As the New York region and The New School recover from Hurricane Sandy, public transportation across the region continues to operate at limited capacity. Many New School students, faculty, and staff members have encountered considerable difficulty getting to campus as a result. To address this issue, we will offer free chartered bus service to and from areas most severely affected by the transit slowdown: Hoboken in New Jersey, and Bushwick and Williamsburg in Brooklyn.

Bus service in New Jersey and Brooklyn will begin tomorrow morning and continue as long as necessary. Students, faculty, and staff members must show their New School IDs to board the bus. Please consult the bus schedule below.

If you choose to cycle to campus, you can lock your bicycle at more than 100 secure bike parking spaces outside of New School buildings. In addition to the sidewalk racks, limited, secure indoor bicycle parking is available for students, faculty, and staff at Imperial Parking Garage on East 14th Street for $25 per semester (payable by cash or check only). A permit can be purchased in Facilities Management (71 Fifth Avenue, 9th floor; open weekdays 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.).

I hope that efforts like this bus service ease your return to a normal schedule in the coming days. I applaud the bravery, patience, and perseverance our New School community has shown during this recovery and I wish you a safe and productive semester.

Thank you,

David
