An overview of the art of vocal accompaniment, including a survey of the materials used (art song, opera, musical theater), and considerations of the basic skills of accompanying, including sight reading, score reduction, coaching, and building recital programs. This course is intended for singers and pianists alike who wish to gain invaluable experience learning how to collaborate on a wide range of vocal repertoire. Repertoire is selected for each class, prepared by the students during the week, performed in class, and critiqued by the instructor. Because students receive individual attention in a classroom environment, the course will address many areas of expertise.
