To provide students with a discplined approach to directing plays from historical periods other than their own. The core belief of this class is that an understanding of the history, culture, and dramaturgy from which a play was born is essential to unlocking that play's dramatic power for a contemporary audience. Alternate seminar weeks and lab weeks. Discussing dramaturgy and particular directorial challenges of the given piece. Students will also be assigned portions of the text and asked to work with actors.

Students who wish to enroll in a graduate theater course at The New School for Drama must be accepted into the graduate theater program as a full-time student.
