This class will challenge directors to create a production of a complex, full-length play. The plays chosen allow for and, indeed, demand that a director consider, develop and influence the play with a personal style and theatrical philosophy; A Personal Aesthetic. Class time is used to present each production in various phases of development, discuss the production as it develops, experiment with different choices and approaches to specific issues within each production as well as use the work on each play for a jumping-off point for discussion of the directing process. Class time can be thought of as a “safe haven” to gain insight from colleagues and the instructor, as well inspiration to take the work further and deeper.
