Description:
This course will bring the student from a live theatre emphasis to the context of the small screen, with an exploration of the similaritites and stark difference between the two dramatic venues. The course wll include the technical history of TV, early programming, the integrationof TV advertising, televisions interaction with American History, TV's descent form, and influence on, dramatic and comedic forms. This popular medium, that is over 70 years old, has become the central organizing principle of modern American culture. It is a perspective on a medium that has challenged both theatre and film, and ultimately, incorporated them.

Course Pre/Co-requisites:
Students who wish to enroll in a graduate theater course at The New School for Drama must be accepted into the graduate theater program as a full-time student.
