Description:
The Integral City Studio is a collaborative project between the New School (Parsons design and Milano Graduate Finance Lab students) and The Robins Project, Warren Ohio. Over the last decade, downtown Warren has experienced little to no community revitalization. Despite a population of 30,000 and a long history of labor and civic engagement, the downtown has struggled to attract and retain live/work resources, economic diversity, business longevity, and a design sensibility that re-imagines the downtown’s character and strengthens the city’s identity. In this fast-paced studio that will be informed by an existing one-year long partnership, students will travel to Warren and use collaborative art and design tools to identify, strengthen, and connect Warren’s cultural assets and naturally-occurring community hubs. Public art programming and alternative revenue models will connect cultural organizations; feasibility studies and creative resource investment will grow participation; and design interventions will build urban connectivity between hubs to advance downtown as an integrated destination and home.
