Description:
This course serves as an introduction for Interior Design students to the nature of hard and soft materials and their direct application in creating and enclosing space. Materials are considered as matter, for their phenomenological effects, their cultural, historical and contemporary and particular use in interior design. Consideration is given to the impact of material choices and deployment on people and the environment and as they are installed in interior assemblies. As a seminar, assignments will be both individual and team based, and will include a number of on-site field-trips.
